Family Therapy

Stephen’s main approach to family therapy is Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT). ABFT is a type of family therapy where parents and child are helped to repair ruptures in their relationship and work to develop or rebuild an emotionally secure relationship. It is an interpersonal, process-oriented and emotionally-focused approach. ABFT is designed to increase the security of the attachment between a parent and child so the relationship can provide a supportive foundation. ABFT focuses on core conflicts between family members, misunderstandings and failures that happen in relationships between family members, interactional patterns and the roles each family member plays in the family and vulnerable emotions that occur both in session and outside of sessions. When a child or adolescent is struggling, it affects the entire family. We support and encourage the whole family to communicate effectively and find solutions together.
